Project Description
The Dr. Bette Stephenson Secondary School Addition supports the York Region District School Board’s plan to convert the existing Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning, originally opened in 2011 as an adult education facility, into a full secondary school. The expanded school is scheduled to open in September 2027, starting with Grades 9 and 10 and growing to a Grade 9 to 12 program by 2029 to 30, with a capacity of 1,250 students. This project prepares the existing grounds to accommodate the new addition and the updated site layout required for the expanded facility.
Scope
- Site demolition and stripping of existing site grounds, asphalt parking removal, and demolition of existing school structures
- Supply and install all ESC measures including temporary cut-off swales, basins and hickenbottoms, and silt-socks.
- Detailed footing excavation and backfilling of new school addition
- Earthworks rough grading of the site for all new paved and landscape areas.
